![]() And the single most important part of these apps they’re free. These apps keep up to date on my reading lists, organize my thoughts and keep me on task. As you can tell, organization is a priority for me. I use it for my own tasks, but it can be used as a collaboration tool in teams. It’s visually pleasing and has great functionality underneath. Sometimes it’s the little things that entertain me. Trello uses a visual card system that moves across your device from left to right. Trello is my digital project manager for all things professional and personal. (I seem to get epiphanies late at night and don’t want a cumbersome process to jot down my brilliant ideas.) Trello My favorite feature of Simplenote is how it can sync across all my devices and web log-ins. I keep it right next to my email app on my iPhone (unfortunately my most used app). Simplenote is exactly what it sounds like. Instapaper is great for cataloging and capturing documents and articles, but for keeping my thoughts organized, I like to use Simplenote. When I get a free moment, or want to hunker down for a reading session, Instapaper makes it easy to sort, categorize and access my reading list. I click the little “I” on my Chrome browser. Sometimes I want to learn more about solitude, but don’t have the time to get through the content. I’m constantly absorbing content from multiple sources… throughout the day I don’t have time to read. Instapaper is an app and an extension for Chrome that allows me to save articles so I can read them later. My favorite app that keeps me moving forward without too much distraction is Instapaper. A few of the apps I keep on my computer and iPhone have increased my organizational processes and efficiency. Scrolling through LinkedIn or the numerous websites I follow can lead to a serious time drain. I find myself getting distracted by digital squirrels constantly. This application is definitely being added to my iPhone’s main screen.By John King, Business Development Manager at Umbrella Managed Systems You can simply have a user name if you wish, or you can password-protect your bookmarks. Aside from literally being one-click bookmarking, Instapaper doesn’t even require that you have a password. Instapaper competes with other bookmarking sites such as Yahoo’s Delicious and the newer LaterLoop, but it is simpler to use than both of those. Instapaper is a side project by Marco Arment, the lead developer for the blogging site Tumblr. Again, this is to cut down on download time. It also removes and JavaScript running on the page (which is often advertisements, so that’s good for you) and also comments (you’ll have to go to the page to read those, Instapaper is simply about bookmarking the content). This web view allows you to see images but smartly compresses them further to ensure its process of downloading them is fast. Because all of the content is downloaded, it never leaves the app itself (to venture out into the World Wide Web), so it’s a very quick way to get through bookmarked items.Īlso really great is that the app offers you the option of reading content as it looks on the website it’s from or simply as a text item. It displays you bookmarked items on the main screen and you simply click on one to read it. I once called Instapaper “beautifully simple” and this app is no different. Now I can load the Instapaper app on my iPhone, load up a bunch of content to read later that I had saved, get on a plane and read it. Lets also remember that on airplanes there is still no viable Internet solution. That means when you are not around a Wi-Fi hotspot, you cannot access the Internet, and thus your bookmarks. But lets remember, unlike the iPhone, the iPod Touch has no cellular service. You might think this is pointless because of the key features of the iPhone is that you are basically always online. The Instapaper app, available as a free download in the Apple App Store, downloads the content you have bookmarked to your iPhone or iPod Touch so you can read it - even if you have no Internet connection whatsoever.
